I've been searching high and low for a good zombie story that was down to earth (not a joke book) and stayed true to the Western lore of rotting and brain eating; this is it. Rowland finally did right by zombies.
The main character is as realistic and relatable as you can get; she dropped out of high school, has a horrible home life, has gone to jail, gets high and takes pills. If you are not this person then you are friends with this person.
If you aren't than I have a hard time believing you can read this all the way up there in your ivory tower.
The book hit my two big deal breakers for novels: Slow paced and has prominate cop characters. Usually one of those is enough for me to shred the thing but I couldn't stop reading.
I want the next book NOW.
